As a small child I was a chatterbox – until a serious stammer kicked in. Could I get my voice back? My parents are having a dinner party. One of the guests, a tall, blond German woman, Mrs Kohler, comes out of the guest bathroom. She is accosted by a six-year-old girl in a short white cotton vest and bloomers. “Hello! Shouldn’t you be in bed?” Mrs Kohler asks.
